The Lucid Factory voor beginners
| Button | Nederlands | English |
|---|---|---|
| Save | Wijzigingen opslaan | Save changes |
| Preflight | Project controleren | Check the project |
| Build | Websitebestanden maken | Create website files |
| Preview | Lokaal bekijken | View locally |
| Publish | Online publiceren, buiten deze test | Publish online, outside this test |
| Restore | Online herstellen, buiten deze test | Restore an online publication, outside this test |
2. Kies de demo
Selecteer TLF Demo in de projectenlijst. Rechtsboven staat TLF 0.98 beta. Via About kun je het technische buildnummer controleren: 0.5.25.
5. Bekijk het resultaat
Klik op Preview Now.
Gebruik New project en kies Office document.

The Lucid Factory for beginners
An introduction and first steps for beta testers
The Lucid Factory, or TLF, helps you create a website on your own computer. You provide the content, choose how the website should look and let TLF create it. This guide explains the terms and walks you through your first test. You do not need to know how to build websites or write code.
What can you create
For example, a small website about a hobby, a collection of stories, a portfolio or information for a community group. A website consists of pages, with a menu that lets you move between them. The homepage is the first page.
Where does your content come from
You can start with a simple example site and enter your own text. You can also import existing content, for example from a Word document. Importing means that TLF brings the content of that file into your project. You can then turn it into a website.
What is a project
A project is your working folder for one website. TLF stores the content, images, settings and generated website files there. The project name helps you find your work. The website title is the name visitors see on the website; it can be different.
What is a theme
A theme determines the design, including colours, fonts, the menu and page layout. You do not need to program the design yourself. The same content can have a different appearance when you choose another theme.
You do not need hosting for this beta test
You create and view your website on your own computer. Hosting is space on an internet server that allows other people to visit your website online. You do not need to arrange this as a tester. Ton will test online publishing and recovery separately.
Understanding the buttons and terms
| Button | Nederlands | English |
|---|---|---|
| Save | Wijzigingen opslaan | Save changes |
| Preflight | Project controleren | Check the project |
| Build | Websitebestanden maken | Create website files |
| Preview | Lokaal bekijken | View locally |
| Publish | Online publiceren, buiten deze test | Publish online, outside this test |
| Restore | Online herstellen, buiten deze test | Restore an online publication, outside this test |
The interface uses the names below. You do not need to know them beforehand. The main sequence is to save your work, check it, create the website and view it.
Why saving alone is not enough
Suppose you change a page title. Save stores that change in your project. Build then creates a new version of the website. Only when you view that new version in Preview will you see the updated title. A website you built earlier does not automatically change with your project.
Local means on your own computer
In Preview, the browser may show an address containing localhost or 127.0.0.1. This is a local address. It does not mean the website is on the internet. Someone else cannot view your website by opening that address on their own computer.
Viewing and changing your first website
Start with the demo to learn the buttons before using your own content. The goal is simple: view a website and then see one change you have made yourself.
1. Install and start TLF
Extract the beta package and run TLF-Setup-0.5.25.exe. Follow the installation steps. Then open The Lucid Factory Test from the Start menu or its shortcut. When upgrading, close TLF first and use the same installation folder.
2. Select the demo
Select TLF Demo in the project list. The top right of the interface shows TLF 0.98 beta. About displays the technical build number: 0.5.25.
3. Check the project
Click Run Preflight and wait for the result. If an error appears, read the message. If you do not understand what to do, copy the message or take a screenshot for the test group.
4. Create the website
Click Build or Build Again. Wait until TLF reports that the build has finished. You do not need a hosting account.
5. View the result
Click Preview Now. The website opens locally in a browser. Look at the homepage and click the menu items. Check the text, images and readability.
6. Change one piece of text
Return to TLF and open Project workspace. Go to Content and Pages and menu. Select an editable TLF page, change its Page text and click Save page. Pages imported from an external source may be read-only here.
7. View your change
Run Preflight and Build again, then open Preview again. Does your new text appear on the page? If you see the old text, refresh the browser page.
Next try a small site of your own
Click Create standard site to create a separate project with example pages. Start with a homepage about a hobby, a page about yourself and a contact page. Change the text first. Then try another theme under Appearance. Save your change and build the website again.
Want to try a Word document later? Use New project and select Office document. Start with a short document with clear headings. Use a copy of your own file for the test.
What we ask you to test
You do not need to diagnose technical faults. Your experience as a new user is valuable: can you understand what is happening and create a small website on your own?
Try these things on your own computer
Install TLF and open the demo.
View the website using Preflight, Build and Preview.
Create a small project of your own and change some text.
Try another theme and, if you like, an image.
Close TLF, restart it and open your project again.
You do not need to test online publishing, hosting settings or Restore. Use our WhatsApp group for questions and discussion. A problem report form will be added to the beta website.
What feedback is useful
Tell us when you hesitate, cannot find a button or do not understand a term. A feature may work correctly yet still be confusing. Report both errors and moments when you get stuck.
Example: “Windows 10, build 0.5.25. I open TLF Demo, change the text on a page and click Save page. Then I run Build and Preview. I expect my new text, but still see the old text, even after refreshing.” If possible, include the exact error message or a screenshot.
If something behaves differently than expected
Cannot see your changes? Check that you saved the correct page and then ran Build again. Also refresh Preview in the browser. If the problem remains, report the steps you followed.
Preview no longer works after closing TLF? The local preview server stops when TLF closes. Restart TLF and open Preview from the program again.
What this beta does not fully support yet
This version is for Windows. A Word document is converted into web pages; its exact Word page layout is not reproduced. PDF and Apple Pages are not yet supported as direct import sources. The simple editor for TLF pages uses plain text and is not yet a full word processor.
Beta means that we are trying out and improving TLF together before the final release. Unexpected errors may occur. Use test content or copies, and do not include passwords or confidential information in reports.
