TheBrain
TLF 0.98 beta · Build 0.5.25
Start TheBrain.
Wijzig in Welcome bijvoorbeeld “Welcome to your new website” in “Welcome to my test website”.
From a real Brain to your website
This example contains Welcome, About and Contact. Metta and other TheBrain users can edit the content in TheBrain, then update their website in TLF. No hosting is needed.
1 Import the archive as a new Brain
Start TheBrain. Open Import or Import/Export from the main menu, choose Import and then Brain Archive (.brz). Select Create a new brain, choose My-first-website.brz from this folder and complete the import. Do not merge the example into an existing personal Brain. Menu wording may differ between TheBrain versions.
2 Look at the content and change a sentence
Welcome is the top Thought, with About and Contact as children. Each Thought has a note. In Welcome, change “Welcome to your new website” to “Welcome to my test website”, for example. Keep “Source example: TheBrain.” as an identifying label.
3 Create a new TLF project
In TLF, choose New project, enter a name and select TheBrain as the Content source. Start with Default Light and create the project. In the Source step, click Open folder or Open source folder. This opens the project’s export destination, ending in brain/export. Copy or note its full path from File Explorer.
4 Export from TheBrain into that empty folder
In TheBrain, open Import/Export, choose Export → JSON Files and click Export. Select the empty brain/export folder belonging to your TLF project and confirm the folder selection. Choose the export folder itself, not its parent folder brain. Use an empty destination for the first exercise.
5 Process the export in TLF
Return to TLF. Click Update website content and wait for the success message. Then run Preflight → Build → Preview. Check the homepage and the other two pages. Your changed sentence should appear on the homepage.
6 Repeat with another change and a different theme
After a successful source update, TLF empties the export folder again. It keeps the working source copy separately in the project. Change another sentence in TheBrain, export again into the same empty folder and run Update website content. If the folder still contains files after a failed update, resolve or report that message first; do not manually delete the working source copy.
Then select another theme under Project workspace → Appearance. Save, run Preflight and Build again and inspect Preview. Check both the changed text and the new design.
Try the included export without TheBrain
You can also copy the contents of the included export folder into a new TLF project’s empty brain/export folder. thoughts.json and links.json must be directly inside that destination, with the UUID folders beside them. export.zip contains the same export; extract it first. TLF does not import the .brz archive directly.
This is Ton’s actual example Brain with a distribution copy of its export. Account metadata has been anonymised and the unused standalone Thought My first website has been removed from this distribution copy. The original uploads have been preserved. Archive integrity and conversion in TLF have been checked; Ton has confirmed that the distribution copy opens in TheBrain.
